Calls to have the Treaty Principle Bills submissions deadline have been made after the New Zealand Parliament website crashed in final hours.
Many users reported the website would not load and therefore could not make their submissions before the deadline of 11:59 on January 7.
The Justice Committee says it will meet on Thursday morning to discuss the Treaty Principles Bill after calls to extend the submissions deadline on the bill.
Many parties including Labour, The Greens and Te Pati Maori have called for the Government to extend the deadline.
Green Party MP Tamatha Paul said, “Parliament’s website crashing last night has meant that many have missed out on having their voices heard on this legislation. This is not good enough.
Te Pāti Māori said the “widespread technical failures on the parliamentary submissions platform” risked undermining the democratic process and shutting out people who wished to have their voices heard.
“This kaupapa is far too important to be rushed or compromised by avoidable errors,” said co-leader Rawiri Waititi.
The committee is due to meet on Thursday to make a decision on late submissions, the Government’s Duty Minister Chris Penk said.
