Aotearoa is full with some brilliant landmarks including ones that are weird and quirky than some that are just amazing natural wonders.
This top 10 list is the definitive ranking of all of New Zealand’s best landmarks.
- L&P Bottle – Paeroa
Starting off strong, it had to be here didn’t it, Paeroa is home to arguably one of the best beverages created on Kiwi shores and what better way to commemorate it than making a big sculpture of it.
- Sky Tower – Auckland
Well, you’ve gotta put the Sky Tower in here and although I’m not personally a huge fan of the tower itself (because I see it almost everyday) it would be rude not to include it, for newcomers to Auckland, it is an exciting sight to see.
- Giant Carrot – Ohakune
Another one of those funny landmarks Aotearoa loves to have, a top 10 list of best Kiwi landmarks would be incomplete without the Giant Carrot, it even has radish sculptures next to it.
- Te Papa – Wellington
An absolute shoe in for making the list, whenever you think of Wellington you think of Te Papa, it gets over a million visitors every year and was the 58th most visited museum in the world in 2023. For little ol New Zealand that’s pretty good.
- Bradrona – Cardrona Valley
Rounding out the first five on the list we have an attraction/landmark that is a bit left-field but I mean it’s cool. Located in Cardrona valley, this fence just spans heaps of bras for reasons unknown, every year Bradrona is responsible for receiving thousands of donations to the New Zealand Breast Cancer association.
- Waitomo Caves – Waitomo
I mean its a cave with glow worms, what more is there to say, its cool asf.
- Hobbiton – Matamata
I bet most people were waiting for this one, probably one of the most well-known Kiwi attractions around the globe. The top 3 are pretty hard to break into so I feel Hobbiton at 4 makes sense.
- Maccas Airplane – Taupo
I mean it was voted the coolest McDonalds in the world, and if there are more than 40,000 McDonald’s stores around the world it would be rude not to make this top 3.
- Te Puia – Rotorua
Home to the world famous Pohutu Geyser and spanning over 70 hectares of geothermal pools and activity, Te Puia in Rotorua is a must visit and receives over half a million visitors a year.
- Milford Sound – Milford Sound
It just had to be Number 1, whenever you see travellers make posts about New Zealand it always includes Milford Sound, it really should be one of the natural wonders of the world, clocking in at getting over a million visits a year, it really is the biggest natural spectacle Aotearoa has to offer.
