Reports have emerged that Two prisoners in Auckland’s District Custody Unit have been caught playing tricks on an unknowing police officer. The pair reportedly managed to convince the unknowing officer to give them what they said was denture glue. The denture glue, however, was a disguise for what was later found to be drugs
Waitematā district commander, Superintendent Naila Hassan, spilled the tea on how the whole thing unfolded.
The inmates asked for their “denture glue,” and the officer, none the wiser, complied. One of the prisoners promptly collapsed after taking the mysterious substance, and his mate suddenly got a conscience and admitted it was actually Gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a Class B drug.
The duo took a trip to the hospital where tests later confirmed the prisoners had indeed indulged in some GBL. The incident has since triggered a review of the custody unit’s procedures realising they needed to update their drug-detection methods.
Hassan assured everyone that new measures were now in place to prevent such mischievous activities from happening again. The police even rolled out training sessions to help staff spot GBL and recognise disguises.
As for the officer who got juked? Well, They gave the officer a stern talking-to and put it down to a valuable learning experience.
