Kiwi Graeme Hebley has somehow managed to surpass two million kilometres on his 1993 Toyota Corolla with both the original engine and transmission.

Hebley purchased the car pre-owned back in 2000 with 80,000 kilometres to its name.

He racks up around 5,000 kilometres a week as he drives between Wellington and New Plymouth working as a newspaper delivery contractor.

The two million kilometre milestone was achieved back in March 2022, which just showcases the ultimate longevity of Toyota vehicles from the time.

Hebley’s Corolla has been thoroughly maintained throughout the years, getting it serviced every two weeks to ensure a successful weekly drive.

The frequent maintenance includes regular cambelt and wheel bearing replacement, but the engine and transmission have not changed since the vehicle was manufactured.

The car’s mechanic, John Sherman, has confirmed the mileage and attributes Hebley’s meticulous upkeep to the car’s sustained longevity.

“If I hadn’t worked on it, I wouldn’t believe it. I wouldn’t believe it could do two million without something going wrong. It’s only because I know that I believe it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t,” Sherman said.

Both Hebley and his mechanic believe the car will keep on chugging away for years to come.
