An incredibly rundown and frankly unlivable house in Invercargill has sold for over $150,000 after an intense bidding war between more than 12 suitors took place.
The four-bedroom villa located on Invercargill’s O’Hara Street attracted lots of attention due to the property’s large subdividable section.
Harcourts agent Carl Wilson was brutally honest about the property, telling potential buyers that the renovation is not for the faint of heart, leave the kids at home and wear good shoes.
“The renovation is not for the faint-hearted. It’s a big, big job… Picture the worst and double it.”
The house itself had no power, all the windows were boarded up, and the garage had recently blown over.
The bidding started at $80,000 and eventually escalated to 27 bids, with a local developer purchasing the property for $154,000.
Wilson said the auction had attracted heaps of attention from locals and some in Australia and Auckland, mostly for property development purposes.
The beneficiaries of the estate were thrilled with the outcome. “It was a bloody good result. I feel so pleased for the vendors, Wilson said.
