Marlburians have turned their council-issued wheelie bins into a collection of “recyclables”.
Used nappies, vapes, hypodermic needles, and even a dildo have made their way into the yellow bins during their first month of use.
The biggest problem for the Marlborough waste team isn’t the dirty and slightly inappropriate, but the items that could’ve should’ve and would’ve been recycled if only they were rinsed properly.
The council has a pretty good idea of which streets are home to the biggest culprits. “Bin audits” are looming on the horizon, so you might want to think twice before tossing anything spicy into the bin.
A council representative confirmed that sex toys are not recyclable. “Our workers had to deal with them directly, and some even contained lithium batteries, which is a fire hazard. No toys of any kind are suitable for recycling.”
if it buzzes, hums, or comes with batteries, best to keep it out of the yellow bin.
