If you worked at McDonald’s between 2009 and 2020 you may be in line for some extra money.
The fast food chain got approval from the Ministry of Business to begin remediation relating to annual leave and holiday pay for employees who worked at Macca’s between November 1st 2009 to December 6th 2020.
In 2016, the Ministry of Business audited many companies in New Zealand and found a number, including McDonald’s, needed to change the way it calculated leave and holiday pay to comply with the Holidays Act 2003.
In 2019, Unite Union estimated McDonald’s owed $45-$90 million to as many as 60,000 staff.
McDonald’s NZ spokesperson Simon Kenney said “tens of thousands” of people would be owed money but not everyone who worked over the 10 years would be owed.
McDonald’s has opened a portal where former staff can check if they were owed money.
