Aotearoa has proudly reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the largest Haka from France after thousands packed out Eden Park to perform Ka Mate on Sunday.
The previous record of 4,028 had been held by France since 2014.
While the official number of participants is yet to be confirmed, a Guinness World Records adjudicator has already said New Zealand has smashed it.
Preliminary numbers suggest 6,631, but those are likely to change.
Among the thousands performing, attendees spotted American TV host Conan O’Brien, Taika Waititi, and boxer David Tua.
Before the Haka attempt, the crowd was treated to local entertainment, including Six60, Che Fu, Alien Weaponry, Rob Ruha and the Topp Twins.
To meet the Guinness criteria, the Haka had to last at least one minute, naturally, everyone powered through Ka Mate four times.
Dame Hinewehi Mohi, who championed the world record attempt as part of the 20th anniversary of the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust, called it a “momentous event.”
“This momentous event has allowed us to showcase our rich cultural heritage to the world and reinforce the deep connection we all share. I am so proud to be a New Zealander tonight and hope everyone can celebrate what we’ve achieved together.”
The world record for the largest Haka is finally back where it belongs.
