New Zealanders have many iconic people such as Sir Edmund Hillary, Kate Sheppard, Sir Peter Blake, Jean Batten etc, they are often talked about a lot, however, many of us forget to talk about and acknowledge the Kiwi Pop Culture Icons, so here is a list of just 5.

  1. Harold the Giraffe

The first celebrity I’ve ever met, a man, a giraffe that taught us all to say no to all things bad in this world and how to look after ourselves.

Did I listen? No. Is he an Icon, Yes.

  1. Camilla the Gorilla

I don’t know what it is with Kiwis and having Iconic animals but Camilla the Gorilla is an integral part of Sticky TV. This show was always on when you got home from school right before the Erin Simpson show.

  1. Nek Minute guy

Probably one of the first Kiwi memes, literally everyone who was alive in New Zealand during the early 10s will know the Nek minute meme, if you don’t you were either too young or lived under a rock.

  1. Karen from Stokes Valley

“20 Fu*ken Wacks”

Need I say anymore?

  1. Dane Rumble

I mean where do I start, he made the 10/10 album named simply “The Experiment”. The album was so good he decided he didn’t need to make another. Probably.

Notable mentions

Brooke Fraser, for pointing out something was in the water.

The entirety of Bro Town.

Rugga, the rugby Mascot.
