Local Christchurch man William Stewart has decided to join his suburb’s local cricket team after watching the Black Ferns stun South Africa in ICC T20 World Cup.
Stewart has not played cricket since his milo cricket playing days as a kid but says watching the White ferns has given him a new lease on life.
“Seeing Amelia Kerr go for 43 really ignited something in me and gave me a reason to get back into a sport I loved as a kid”.
Although he has not played a competitive game since he was in his youth he last picked up a bat and a ball since he was bowled out for a duck by his grandma in his family’s annual Christmas backyard cricket game.
“Although I was dismissed by grandma’s deadly inswinging yorker last Christmas I am not letting my recent run of form discourage me”.
The White Ferns triumphant win capped a fairytale run over the past three weeks in the United Arab Emirates, giving the White Ferns a second world title to go with the one-day triumph they managed in 2000, more than two decades ago.
