Passengers on an Air New Zealand flight had to enjoy a 9-hour flight to well…nowhere.
NZ289 took off from Auckland on Monday night en route to Shanghai, but just after the plane reached the Solomon Islands, it turned back towards New Zealand, landing in Auckland just after 8.30 am on Tuesday.
Air NZ’s chief operating officer Alex Marren said the flight returned to Auckland as a “proactive safety measure due to one of the aircraft’s engines using more oil than usual”.
“The decision was made to return to Auckland so our engineering team could check the aircraft here to expedite repair,” said Marren.
The plane was a 10-year-old Boeing 787. We have all seen the recent news about Boeing and know it cannot be trusted.
