A 28-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly holding a woman at knife point for her pizza in Central Auckland.

The incident occurred on Tuesday Night on Mayoral Drive, when a woman was returning to her accommodation carrying recently bought pizzas.

She was approached by a man who allegedly brandished a knife, the woman handed over the pizzas unharmed.

The perpetrator then fled on foot with the stolen food, but his escape was short-lived after police camera operators tracked his movements through the central city and guided officers to his location.

“Units responded to the scene and worked in conjunction with Police Camera Operators,” said Inspector Grant Tetzalff.

“Police Cameras had tracked the movements of the man within the central city and were able to direct staff who arrested the man.

“It’s a good example of frontline Police resources working together to keep the city safe and respond to any events that occur,” the police statement read.

The man has been charged with aggravated robbery and is set to appear in Auckland District Court.
