As State of Origin game one edges closer to kick-off many around the country will be rushing to their closest TV or sports bar to catch the first game of three between the New South Wales Blues and the Queensland Maroons in what is set to be a thrilling showdown at Stadium Australia in Sydney.

Christchurch woman Sarah Hamilton has told her partner “No one cares about State of Origin” and adds “It’s just an excuse for my partner to stay out late and drink mid-week with his mates considering the game starts at 10 pm”

During the lead-up to the first game, Sarah has been very stanch against her partner going out to watch it, However, ever since she came across the Brisbane Broncos TikTok page featuring the likes of Jordan Riki, Jesse Arthars and of course Reece Walsh she has become quite fond of the 5ft 10 star fullback for the Maroons.

Sarah has now taken a keen interest in the origin series saying things like “Come on Queensland” and “Up the Maroons” despite having entirely no links to the state.

Sarah’s partner has been more than surprised by her sudden interest in the series but says it’s been a great bonding experience although he is a devout New South Wales Fan.

He loves to tell her that “Reece Walsh isn’t even that good” and “New South Wales aren’t even favourites to win” In her response, she says “With hair and eyes like his, you don’t need to be good”.
