If you usually commute by train, now might be a good time to consider taking the bus as further delays and cancellations are expected after a total and complete train outage occurred earlier today.

“The track issue occurred at about 7.30 am and initially resulted in the suspension of just the Eastern Line,” Auckland Transport rail franchise manager Craig Inger said.

“It was fixed by KiwiRail just before 10 am, however, Auckland One Rail train crews were displaced due to the disruption and their unionised staff are not working on any altered plans outside of their master roster. This means Auckland One Rail was able to provide train services from about 10:30 am.

However, due to industrial action and limited staff there may still be cancellations and delays.

The outage has put a huge strain on commuters with some missing work, courses or time spent with kids.

Auckland One Rail, the city’s trains operator, warned earlier this month that services would operate at a reduced timetable across the network at peak times for an unforeseen period due to planned industrial action and this outage has not helped one bit.

If you travel mainly via train it may be best to prepare alternative options.
