The Black Caps have completed their greatest ever series win, in fact one of the best for any nation in test history, sweeping India 3-0 in their own backyard.
Only once in 91 years has India been swept in a multi-test series and never across three matches. Only twice in 95 years has New Zealand won a test in India before this series began.
It was fitting that Ajaz Patel spun the Black Caps to a historic victory at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, the same place he was born 36 years ago.
The spinner took 6-57 as India were bowled out for 121 in their second innings and lost the third test by 25 runs.
“It’s been a massive achievement,” captain Tom Latham said of the whitewash. “After the first one, it was obviously pretty special.
“The second one, to win a series, was even more special. Then we spoke about coming here and trying to try to adapt as much as we can and to be in this position, 3-0 it’s certainly a series that I’ll never forget.
Ex West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop said that it has been an historic and proud few weeks for New Zealand cricket.
“Amazing from New Zealand. A population of less than 6 million. No Kane Williamson. They have conquered an unenviable task, and both men’s and women’s teams have had an historic and proud few weeks.”
