Former National Minister and MP for Central Auckland Nikki Kay has passed away aged 44.
It’s understood she died at the weekend after a long battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2016.
Her former colleague, Maggie Barry, posted on Facebook a short time ago a picture of the pair with the caption “farewell my friend”.
Many of Kay’s friends said she was in great health up until a few months ago, when it went downhill suddenly.
Kay, was a former deputy leader of The National Party and served as a Minister in John Keys government.
She publicly announced her cancer diagnosis in 2016 and returned to her duties as Minister the following year.
Kaye announced in 2020 that she was leaving politics following that year’s general election.
Kaye was described as enthusiastic, hardworking and a strong advocate for youth, women and environmental rights and awareness.
