Former Green Party MP Golriz Ghahraman is to be sentenced today after pleading guilty to her shoplifting escapades.
The former politician was charged in January following a shoplifting investigation which found she had stolen around $8367 worth of clothing from three shops
Ghahramans shoplifting antics have been revealed in court documents, the former MP entered and browsed the stores, even trying items of clothing before concealing items in her bag and leaving without paying.
In one of her three thefts, Ghahraman Cre8tiveworkx in Wellington with a male accomplice, she removed some clothing garments from the display rack and took them into the changing room, Whilst hidden behind the privacy curtain in the changing room, Ghahraman put a Zambesi shirt, worth $695, inside her clothing or bag.
She did buy a pair of pants with her credit card at the counter but did not attempt to pay for the Zambesi shirt.
The former MP must’ve felt some guilt as in one of the escapades she returned many items to a store in Newmarket after shoplifting (except for a $290 tank top).
Under section 223 of the Crimes Act, Ghahraman could face a maximum of 7 years’ imprisonment.
