The New Zealand Government will consider raising the minimum age for social media use to 16.
This follows the Government’s recent decision or attempt to ban phones in schools in an effort to promote better education for our nation’s youth.
However, they have concluded that banning phones is not enough and will now discuss ways to restrict social media usage, not just at school, but in general.
Although enforcing this may be difficult, the Government plans to speak with tech giant Meta to explore the possibility of this action.
To further reinforce the proposed regulations, the Government will suggest possible prosecution for anyone under the restricted age caught using social media, which could include a hefty fine.
A recent poll shows that 90% of voters agree with restricting the age for social media, while 10% disagree.
But honestly, who under 40 even votes on these things anyway?
