A local Wellington lad has spent his spare time developing an app that helps Kiwis find and share the best pies in Aotearoa, decked out with both photo and video-sharing options as well as real-time ratings.
According to Mean Pies’s official website, the idea was started over a couple of beers and a can-do attitude.
“Born out of a conversation over a couple of beers and a keen problem-solving attitude, Mean Pies has hit the shelves ready to serve kiwis up a place to share pies and find a new Mean Pie spot.”
The Mean Pies app launched at the start of March and creator Matt Carkeek says that although he is still fine-tuning the app it has gained heaps of traction.
“It’s taken off pretty hard. Everyone is pretty excited about it”
“I’m still plugging away, still trying to make it better. It only really launched at the start of March, but we’ve already got about 300 registered accounts and about a thousand downloads,” he added.
The app allows users to see pie shops from around the country, see reviews left by others and if they’re keen on a particular, the app gives directions to where the pie can be bought.
It also allows users to find pie shops in the local area and also has a feature where you can filter by pie ratings.
Currently, the highest-rated pie on the app is a steak and cheese. Classic.
Mean Pies is available for download on the app store.
