A Tauranga woman who went on a late-night Maccas mission was told by a worker to either halve their order or “ration it” because it would be “nicer”.
The woman posted her encounter on TikTok at a Tauranga McDonald’s branch in the early hours of Sunday morning.
After a night on the town, she was with two other carloads of mates and needed a Maccas fix.
The woman went through the drive-thru expecting to order two shareboxes containing four burgers, four fries, and four drinks, exactly what you need after a night out.
As she went to order her two shareboxes, they were told, “No, can you just order one?”
In the TikTok video, someone in the car asked, “Have you only got one?”
“I could do two, but it would be nicer for me if you did one,” the worker responded.
After being told there were a lot of people waiting, the drive-thru worker responded.
“I’m sure you could ration it,” he said.
Eventually, the McDonald’s staff relented and instructed the group to move to the second window to pick up the full order.
The woman said she understood that it must be difficult working night shift on the weekend, but said the worker had displayed a poor attitude and also threw the EFTPOS machine into the car when they went to pay.
When asked about the food, the woman said the burgers were “top tier” but the chips were “stale as.”
A McDonald’s spokesperson said, “The restaurant has been made aware of a video on social media, and is looking into it to establish what might’ve happened”.
