The second stage of Auckland’s new local alcohol policy goes live today, this means from today onwards you will see changes to what hours alcohol can be served in off licenses, on licenses and clubs.

At off-licences, such as bottle shops and supermarkets, alcohol sales now end at 9pm.

Bars and restaurants with relevant licences can sell alcohol up to 4am in the city centre, and 3am outside the city centre.

Sports clubs and RSAs can sell alcohol until 1am if already permitted to do this by the District Licensing Committee, However, the new policy does not impact special licenses for festivals and events.

The new changes are a part of Auckland’s Local Alcohol Policy designed to influence the location, number and trading hours of businesses licensed to sell alcohol.

The purpose of LAP’s is usually to encourage the responsible sale, supply and consumption of alcohol and focus on reducing alcohol related harm.

The changes were voted for by Auckland Council back in August after months of campaigning and public consultation.
