Aotearoa has yet again been left off the world map, this time at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics closing ceremony.

Despite a record-equaling medal haul for our athletes, we needed more to get us a spot on the Olympic map.

As the lights went out in the stadium a glowing, rough outline of the map lit up, although it captured most of the countries, there was a small dark patch next to Australia.

Although there was a whole social media movement bringing attention to the issue, and a plea from a former Prime Minister not to leave New Zealand off maps, the country on the corner of the world map has disappeared (again).

However, this phenomenon is not new as there are Reddit and Wikipedia pages dedicated to this upsetting issue.
