Scientists in the Waitakere ranges believed they had come across a new species and some speculated it could’ve been extraterrestrial after finding items with a foreign language.
However, after further surveying the area and looking for evidence they did not come across a lost extraterrestrial or a new species of animal but instead, a lost Romanian backpacker who happened to go off trail.
Although the scientists were disappointed not to have made a groundbreaking discovery they were pleased they were able to locate and assist a lost tourist.
“We all thought we were onto something big here after all the evidence we had collected but after further inspection, we realised we were dealing with something completely different”
After the backpacker realised they were lost they started leaving evidence such as random little items and trinkets to mark where they had been, which is what the scientists have discovered.
The Backpacker was found safe and sound and was taken back to their accommodation.
