Police in Papakura have helped reunite a very grateful rider with his beloved scooter 10 years after it was originally stolen.

Counties Manukau Response Manager Senior Sergeant Clive Wood said officers had seen a young person riding a scooter that had been reported missing over a decade ago.

Personally impressed they managed to remember all the details.

The young rider had explained to police that they had recently purchased the scooter off Facebook marketplace, rightly so they were upset to learn the scooter was stolen so police assisted to get the money reimbursed.

The registered owner of the scooter had parked the two wheeled vehicle behind his mates house in Whangarei and had forgotten about it.

By the time he realised the scooter was long gone.

Police had let the owner know that the scooter had been located, which came as a big surprise considering the length of time.

When he came to pick up the scooter from Papakura station he was over the moon.
