If you live in Auckland you know parking, especially in the CBD is the biggest nightmare imaginable but if you thought it couldn’t get worse, it does.

People parking on Federal Street right next to Sky Tower are saying they are being stung by ticketing cameras even if they are there for a couple of minutes.

The portion of Federal Street between Mayoral Drive and Wellesley Street had what was described as a “Parisian” makeover which removed most of the available parking spots, even for mobility ticket holders.

One woman lives on Federal Street with her sister who uses a wheelchair.

She has a mobility pass but has to drop her sister off near the apartment complex before finding somewhere else to park.

When ticketing cameras were installed they got stung with heaps of parking tickets, some were for only stopping for a few minutes.

“Four minutes long, this one is, three minutes… this is three minutes, forty-three seconds, is what it’s saying on the three tickets I’ve got in front of me.”

They have since spent $100 in parking fines dropping off their sister.

Auckland Transport has received numerous complaints regarding parking issues on Federal Street, but plans remain to use more cameras to issue parking tickets in the city centre.
