According to the latest report from the United Nations on Drugs and Crime, Australia and New Zealand are the world’s biggest users of Cocaine.
Although people in the Americas use it more than anywhere else, per capita, the consumption of the devil’s dandruff is most prevalent in Australia and New Zealand.
The report said that 3% of people aged between 15-64 used cocaine in 2023.
This is almost double the rate in the Americas at 1.64% and almost three times the rate in Europe at 1.10%.
Wastewater analysis shows that most consumers in Australia and New Zealand are only using the substance occasionally.
Australasia has for a long time been an attractive market for traffickers due to the relative wealth of the countries and the price users are willing to pay.
The prevalence of cannabis use in the two countries was recorded at more than 12%, with the use of MDMA remaining the highest worldwide.
