A Wellington teacher who disguised himself as a drug dealer to exploit a 14-year-old girl for oral sex in exchange for cannabis has been found guilty of unlawful sexual communication.

The man, who currently has name suppression along with his victim was a teacher at a Wellington school when their relationship turned inappropriate went from leaving school for lunch to messaging each other privately via Facebook.

It soon escalated once again when he initially gave the victim 3 grams of the class c substance outside of an Upper Hut bus stop.

A few days later the victim messaged the teacher again looking to purchase the narcotic but he responded by saying he was all out but his friend “Joseph” would sort her out.

“Joseph” was him but disguised fully with only his eyes showing, he met her at the same place and gave her the substance.

Another meeting was arranged at a local school and the teacher again arrived disguised as “Joseph” where he said she could have three bags of cannabis and $100 cash if she performed oral sex on him.

The victim obliged for about 30 seconds before telling him that she thought she might throw up, The man put his hand on the girl’s head and forced her, despite her trying to pull away. She became upset, started crying and left.

In August 2022 the man pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual communication with a young person, indecent communication and supply for a Class C drug in the Wellington District Court.

In October of the same year, he was sentenced to nine months’ home detention, but granted permanent name suppression by the court.

Following his conviction and sentence the Teachers Disciplinary Tribunal were notified and held a hearing last year where it cancelled his registration for good.
