In a season where many touted us as top 4 or even minor premiership contenders following our very successful 2023 campaign, our beloved Warriors have had a more than underwhelming and disappointing 2024 season.

We did not come close to fulfilling our pre-season expectations, whether due to the horrendous injury run our team experienced, the departure of our defensive coach, or just bad luck (including inconsistent refereeing).

Just like every Warriors fan, however, I will remain hopeful for the start of the 2025 season and provide reasons why next year will be our year.

James Fisher-Harris Signing

Replacing former Prop of the Year Addin Fonua-Blake seemed like an impossible task, but after signing premiership-winning prop James Fisher-Harris on a 5-year deal, we have the best possible replacement. His abilities, leadership, and experience will add a much-needed boost to the team and further strengthen our forward pack.

Talented Youngsters

The Warriors are essentially hoarding talented youth players, as seen with the likes of Ali Leiataua, Zyon Maiu’u, Demetric Sifakula, and more. If the Warriors manage this right, there will be no need to look abroad for players when they are already in our backyard. This approach will not only improve our first team but also enhance our junior systems.

Halves Pairing

The Warriors have always struggled to find the right halves pairing, but this season shows what we need to do going forward. We’ve seen the improvements in attack that Te Maire Martin offers us, and it is a known fact that Luke Metcalf will be around for years to come. If these two can create synergy and chemistry, who knows what they can accomplish? Chanel Harris-Tevita also provides much-needed cover and help off the bench.

The Downsides

There are things you cannot control, such as injuries, which we have struggled with all season, as well as the departures of Addin Fonua-Blake, Jazz Tevaga, the potential departure of Dylan Walker, and the retirement of Warriors legend Shaun Johnson. These factors will also take a toll, but they are things no one can control, just like poor refereeing.

There is no point in worrying about what we can’t control. Instead, we should focus on the things we can. With a bit of luck and everything falling into place, I’m confident that the Warriors can reach where we belong: as premiership winners
