Arguably the most yucky and depressing street in all of Auckland, Albert Street in the CBD takes the cake as the absolute worst in the region.
Since 2019, the powers that be have decided that Albert Street needed a new train station right in the heart of the city. But, the construction has been a complete nightmare for businesses along the street. The end of construction couldn’t come soon enough.
The construction has turned Albert Street into a depressing, unappealing wasteland for tourists and Aucklanders alike.
One business owner said the construction has been so disruptive he’s struggling to pay salaries and has had to dig into his own pockets.
Rental prices are sky-high, and with sales down, it’s a struggle for any business on that stretch of road
Another business owner said her loyal customers have fled the scene because of all the dust and noise but can you blame them?
The street looks like the aftermath of a Transformers movie and has essentially become a no-go zone for anyone who doesn’t want a lung full of dust. Albert Street, you’ve earned your title as Auckland’s worst street, hands down.
